About Our Company

T&P, which recently celebrated its 50th birthday, was established in October, 1955 when two engineers, a manufacturing supervisor, and an accountant left the business forms division of Western Gear and started a small job shop to produce punch and die rings. The company grew rapidly because of the corresponding growth of business forms presses. Soon T&P was saturating the market with thousands of punch and die rings in the 60s and 70s. International sales also started growing at this time due to T&P's expanded overseas operations.

Most of the innovations in rotary punching technology were created by the experienced engineers at T&P. They invented the first split, aluminum P/D shell for punching across the web, and also designed and patented a screwless type punch ring for quickly changing conventional punches. During the 1960s, our engineers developed units to punch a myriad of shapes including triangles, diamonds, ovals, squares, etc. Hundreds of special application punch units were designed and fabricated during the 70s as T&P fine-tuned its specialty capabilities. Units as large as 42" in circumference and over 96" wide were produced.

During the 1980s, T&P designed and fabricated custom unwind/rewind systems to convert web material for special applications in the medical, computer, and graphics vinyl sign industry. They began manufacturing complete turnkey converting systems for special widths that were not readily available from the standard press manufacturer. Their Marathon (long life) punching system was also introduced during the 80s and this changed the way computer line hole punching was performed. It has become the standard for converting line hole labels and forms ever since.

In the 90s, T&P's experience led them to the design and fabrication of their largest converting system to date. It handles 40" wide material, runs 400 fpm, has dual punch unit stations, die cut and slitting stations, dual rewinds with a quick-change roll removal system, and even has an oscillating matrix rewind system to eliminate matrix web breakage. The system was designed with three long life Marathon punch units for producing special graphic vinyl sign patterns.

Over the past 15 years, T&P has extensively upgraded its equipment and computers. The latest Autocad software is used in the engineering department, and more CNC machining centers and lathes have been purchased for the production department.

While there have been many changes at T&P since its beginning in 1955, the critical components of continuity and experience remain. Most of T&P's employees have been with T&P for over 10 years and several employees have been with T&P over 30 years. Through it all, a commitment to customer service and the design and manufacturing of reliable tooling has been, and remains, T&P's goal.
